The Challenge

This mushroom producer, a key player in the mushroom industry, faced the challenge of further automating its packaging process. With rising labor costs and a shortage of staff, there was a growing need for a more efficient solution that would reduce dependency on manual labor.

Sismatec already had a long-standing relationship with this producer, who was using several of our machines. When the need for automation became clear, an alternative solution was initially considered, but it did not fully meet the specific requirements. The packaging process was still being carried out manually by one operator, and a careful balance had to be found between cost savings and the required investment. Sismatec and Sismation joined forces to design a compact and efficient tailor-made solution.

The Solution

After a thorough analysis, a case packer was implemented that perfectly matched the production conditions of this mushroom producer. The machine required minimal floor space and could be easily integrated into the existing process. The case packer operates with advanced gantry YZ technology and has a processing capacity of 80 products per minute, comparable to the performance of a single operator.

The system is highly flexible and can handle both crates up to 600×400 mm and boxes up to 400×300 mm without the need for changeovers. This versatility made the case packer particularly well-suited for automating the packaging line of this mushroom producer. It streamlined the packaging process, resulting in a consistent throughput and reduced physical strain on the staff. This solution not only improved efficiency but also provided flexibility for future automation, ensuring the company is well-prepared for further developments in the industry.

The Result

The introduction of the new case packer brought numerous benefits. The packaging process now runs more smoothly and consistently, with minimal manual intervention. As a result, the production floor is calmer, and the line speed remains constant, leading to less downtime. With one fewer operator on the line, labor costs were immediately reduced. In addition, the physical strain of the work has been completely eliminated, as the machine now performs the heavy lifting. This resulted in a safer and more ergonomic working environment.

An additional advantage is that the packaging line can easily be expanded to meet future requirements. Packaging quality has also improved, reducing the number of incorrectly sealed packages. The mushroom producer is extremely satisfied with the solution and has already ordered a second machine. Throughout the entire process, Sismatec and Sismation remained closely involved, providing excellent support during installation and implementation. Any additional requests that arose during the project were quickly and efficiently realized.
