Signature Foods is the company behind well-known brands such as Heks’nkaas, Johma and Westland. Since 1962, they have produced salads, dips, spreads and tapas from 10 different sites across Europe. Signature Foods Tapas is based in Almelo, where fresh hummus, olives and Heks’nkaas are produced. Signature Foods already used several Proseal traysealers from Sismatec, and a complete hummus line was recently added to that.
The new packaging line for hummus production had to meet a number of requirements. The line had to handle 3 different trays from 1 denester. This also includes a trio cup, where it is important that the cup keeps the same orientation, from the denester through to topsealing. The whole line had to be connected fully automatically, and low changeover times were important too.
The whole line is controlled from the Proseal traysealer. The trays stay in the same position from filling to sealing, so the process runs smoothly. Signature Foods’ existing 3-head filler is also integrated into the new line, alongside the Rex vacuum filler.
The result speaks for itself. The hummus line produces 3,000 cups per hour and the olive line 2,500 cups per hour. On a good day, that adds up to as many as 60,000 tubs packaged in total. Just as important: the lines run reliably and are easy to operate, because everything is controlled centrally from the traysealer. That means short changeover times when switching trays or products.
The partnership between Signature Foods and Sismatec has gone well from the start. Sezar highlights the service and the shared drive to keep doing things better. ‘From the moment I got in touch with Sismatec, I have been nothing but satisfied. With the service, but also with the way we work together to keep improving. I have nothing to complain about,’ says Sezar Cagri, plant manager at Signature Foods Tapas.
