BerryWorld Netherlands runs on flexibility. In the soft fruit sector, harvests, seasons and sudden peaks in demand set the pace. With 13 topseal packaging lines, BerryWorld serves the market all year round.
The company was founded in 1994 by Wil Beekers, then still a strawberry grower. Today, BerryWorld has grown into an international player, with a modern 16,000 m² distribution centre for storing and distributing soft fruit.
In 2014, an important theme was added: sustainability. The traditional fruit punnets with separate lids had to make way for a more sustainable alternative. And the new packaging solution had to be flexible enough to move with the swings in supply and demand.
Together with Sismatec, BerryWorld chose a topseal solution. What started with two Proseal traysealers grew into a fleet of 13 lines. With around 30 different tools, BerryWorld can switch quickly between pack formats and move with the harvest and customer demand.
The high capacity means short delivery times: a large order that comes in during the morning can go out the same afternoon. The switch to topseal led to around 33% less plastic and better protection during transport. But the biggest advantage is the reliability. The machines are robust, easy to operate and last for years. That keeps the total cost of ownership low.
A partnership that works
Fixed points of contact, short lines and more and more machines connected online, so breakdowns can be solved remotely. That saves time. On top of that, Sismatec visits every year for maintenance and inspection. According to Ad, that is rarely needed: ‘The machines just run reliably, so we do not need much.
Result: maximum output, minimal downtime
Resultaat: Kimchi zonder handmatige tussenkomst verzendklaar maken.
Result: stable production with little manual work.
